Message from the Director | | Coming to a career decision can be a long and arduous journey. Many young people and adults are unaware as to how to even start this journey. Most of us make career choices purely because of interest in a particular job. Others, by opinions and pressure from friends and family. Yet others, purely by economic reasons or trends in the job market. How well guided are we when we make choices in these ways? | It is interesting to note that the word Career comes from the Latin word Carina or Careen, which when used as a verb means ‘to move at high speed’. The Middle French word for career is carriere. When used as a verb means ‘moving around a race course’. Career can therefore mean ‘moving around in circles at high speed’. Such a movement can however be dangerous, stressful, confusing and tiring. CAREERsense@HELP will provide you that direction as we help you navigate out of the myriad of choices that confronts each person. CAREERsense@HELP is the Career Guidance and Testing Centre at HELP University College. If you are therefore struggling with a career decision, or want to know how to suceed in a career that you have already identified, or if you need help in looking for a job, CAREERsense@HELP is here to make sure that at every step of this journey, you are not lost and most certainly, not alone. Drop by for a visit. We can help you activate the career compass within you. D. Gerard Joseph Louis, Director
