brief overview

The Department of Information Technology is led by the Head of Department with a group of highly qualified and committed academicians. The staff members are equipped with a diverse exposure in a wide range of disciplines, with many years of combined experiences in both the public and private sectors. As such, the quality of teaching is maintained at a high standard.

With HELP University College 's mission statement, to be the leading and most successful education institution in fulfilling the education needs and aspirations of Malaysians, the Department of Information Technology plays an integral role in this respect. It aims towards fulfilling HELP University College philosophy of 'Pride of Achievement', 'Sharing Success' and 'The Courage to Be'.

Developments in information technology have caused man to change many paradigms and redefine others. They have introduced new concepts of time and perspective, and new types of activities. Every aspect of human activity has been touched by IT. As well as being a tool, it is a way of life, a frame of mind, a way of thinking, a philosophy, and above all a profession.

The Department of Information Technology was formed in 1998. The IT programmes are offered at undergraduate level with 3 exclusive partner universities: Charles Sturt University (CSU), the largest distance education provider in Australia, which offers the 3+0 programme in Bachelor of Information Technology; the University of East London (UEL) in the UK, a rapidly developing university with 102 years of excellence in teaching and research, offering the 3+0 programme in Bachelor of Science (Honours) Business Information Systems. On top of that, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Multimedia Studies and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in E-Commerce are also available in 2+1 arrangement with UEL.

The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia's leading university, has an exclusive 2+1 and 2+2 arrangement with HELP University College that allows students to study two years at HELP and finish their degrees at UQ for a fee that is less than the cost of an offshore campus degree in Malaysia. Programmes offered are the Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Information Technology Honours, and Bachelor of Engineering - UQ's internationally recognised specialist degrees in computer technology and applications. Each programme includes a central core comprising compulsory studies in computer science and other affiliated areas.

UQ is a leader among Australia's 37 universities and is internationally recognised as a premier research institution. It's specialised degrees in computer technology and applications are highly prized. UQ is the only three Australian members of Universitas 21, an elite association of 20 world-class, comprehensive, research-intensive universities worldwide.

Students in the IT Programmes are able to transfer to renowned universities such as University of Melbourne, University of Queensland, Deakin University, Curtin University of Technology in Australia, the University of Birmingham and the University of Greenwich in the UK. HELP's IT Programmes are also accepted by more than 80 universities in the US.

HELP University College boosted its IT facilities by setting up 10 computer labs, 8 incubator labs, and the Lexis-Nexis online database with more than 500 multimedia computers. In line with the latest technology and skills requirement, HELP University College had recently added an Apple Power Mac G4 Multimedia Laboratory to support the Multimedia Studies Programme. HELP University College's IT facilities have been recognised by the Multimedia Development Corporation as consistently exceeding industry standards, marking HELP University College as the leading IT training centre in Malaysia.
