1(HELP)+4(Waterloo) Co-op Program (3 years of study + 8 months of co-op in Canada)

HELP University College and the University of Waterloo, Canada, is offering an Actuarial Science Credit Transfer Program into the University of Waterloo's Co-operative (Co-op) education system, which allows students to earn academic credits for their work employment whilst studying, not to mention a good salary!

Graduates of the University of Waterloo are eligible to stay in Canada for THREE YEARS FULL-TIME employment upon completion of their degree studies.

HELP University College is offering students the opportunity to complete one or two years of their studies at the American Degree Program Department before transferring to the University of Waterloo, which is located in Ontario, Canada.

University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo, located at the heart of Canada's Technology Triangle, has become one of Canada's leading comprehensive universities with 28,000 full and part time students in undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

For 17 years in a row, the university has been named Canada's most innovative university in the Maclean's annual university rankings, and has topped the reputational categories of Best Overall, Most Innovative, and most likely to produce the Leaders of Tomorrow.

Waterloo, as home to the world's largest post-secondary co-operative education program, embraces its connections to the world and encourages enterprising partnerships in learning, research, and discovery.

Faculty of Mathematics

The University of Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics has the largest concentration of mathematical and computer science talent in the world. Perhaps the best testimony to Waterloo's standing and exceptional reputation is the quality and many achievements of the faculty's teachers, researchers, alumni and students. With more than 5,300 students, 200 full-time professors, and 180 courses in mathematics, statistics and computer science, the faculty is a powerhouse of discovery and innovation.

University of Waterloo is home to the largest co-op education system in the world. They have 3500 employers worldwide hiring their students for employment directly related to their field of study. Faculty of Mathematics students earn on average between CAD52,000 and CAD83,000 during the six co-op work terms.

Most programs in Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics are offered in both the co-op and regular systems of study. Academically, co-op and regular are the same - that is, students from both systems take their courses together and follow the same academic programs. The only difference is that co-op students take a break every four months to go on four-month work terms, in jobs located primarily in Ontario, with a smaller selection found across Canada and abroad.

The two systems (Co-operative and Regular)

The regular system provides continuity

The regular system of education, the more traditional approach than the co-op system, is a desirable option for a significant portion of students. The regular system involves eight months of study from September through April. The academic year (two four-month school terms) is then followed by a four-month break during which students normally work.

Co-op provides the on-the-job experience
With opportunities to connect classroom theory with actual applications ina  wide range of employment settings, co-op is attractive to a large percentage of mathematical and computer science students. During co-op work terms, students undertake a varity of job responsibilities, pick up new work-related skills, and earn competitive salaries, depending on the job level and experience. While co-op takes on year longer to complete than a more traditional program - for a total of 4 years 8 months - students gain up to two years of valuable work experience and make important career contacts.

The Pathway

1 year consists of 3 terms.

The regular program will take 4 years to complete assuming 2 terms  are completed each year and 5 courses are taken each term.

The Co-op program is identical to regular studies academically, however, work terms increases the length of program to 4 years 8 months.

Students who are interested in pursuing the regular pathway complete two years at the ADP Department, HELP University College before transferring to the University of Waterloo for the final two years.

Students who are interested in pursuing the co-op pathway, complete one year at the ADP Department before transferring to the University of Waterloo for the remaining 3 years studies, and 8 months co-op.
