WHAT IS MEDIA STUDIES?

In the past, degress in media focused only on print journalism as it was then the most popular mainstream medium. However, this major in Media Studies covers more than print journalism. The basics of journalistic writing and editing for print and electronic media forms are still essential parts of this program. However, the major in Media Studies also covers writing and editing for emerging new media such as web sites and web logs. Corporate writing for newsletters and annual reports is also included.

HONOURS THESIS
As this is an Honours degree, one requirement to graduate with honours is to write a thesis. We would recommend that this thesis focus on a contemporary issue in a local setting so that it is a meaningful exercise with possible practical implementation. Observing trends and communication related behaviour is encouraged.

INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
Practicum, otherwise known as internship, practical training or job placement, is a requirement for our communication gradutes. Students will have options to do the practicum either in internationally renowned companies operating in Malaysia, or large Malaysian companies identified by us, or in organizations of their choice which need to be approved by the faculty.
