In year 2003 and 2004, the organisers HELP University College, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), Alliance Francaise and French Embassy, with the support of various sponsors, took the lead in organising the largest ever Fête de la Musique in Malaysia for the public. It was not only the first in Malaysia but also in South East Asia.

In view of the overwhelming success of the festival in 2003 and 2004 and also the many possibilities of utilising it further to promote music and arts in Malaysia, the Fête de la Musique 2005 will once again be organised at the following locations in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya:

PETALING JAYA
18 & 19 June 2005: 11 am to 10 pm

  • Rainforest, New Wing, One Utama
KUALA LUMPUR
19 June 2005: 12 pm to 12 am
  • Low Yat Plaza (Main stage)
  • Sungei Wang Plaza (Stage)
  • Times Square (Stage)
  • Lot 10 (Performance spot)
  • BB Plaza (Performance spot)
  • Piccolo Mondo (Performance spot)
  • KL Plaza (Performance spot)

The Fête de la Musique 2005 will be offically launched on Sunday, 19 June 2005 at 3 pm at Low Yat Plaza by YBhg Datuk Hj Ruslin bin Hj Hasan, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur.

Catch Jabal perform live on June 19 at the official launching of the Fête de la Musique at 3pm. Jonathan Boyer, Julien Danlos and Guillaume Henri are three lads from Normandy who form the trio Jabal from the Arab word mountain. They play a brand of French folk music inspired by sounds and rhythms of the Mediterranean, North Africa in particular.

Fête de la Musique is a festival that complements the government's efforts to promote culture as well as tourism. Given its potential, we are confident that similar to the scenario in France and other countries, the festival in the Klang Valley is capable of attracting musicians and tourists from the region.

In the years to come, the Malaysian version of Fête de la Musique has the potential of being listed as an event not to be missed in tourism calendars.

Thus the Fête de la Musique was introduced because music, as an international language, has the power to integrate, unite and harmonise people. This is especially important for a multi-racial country like Malaysia.

Aims

Specifically, the objectives for Fête de la Musique are as follows:

  • To provide the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the different genre of national and international music
  • To provide an avenue for both amateur and professional musicians to showcase their talents
  • To promote Malaysian culture and musicians of all genres to the international arena
  • To encourage Malaysians and foreign tourists to attend the music festival
  • To promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging Malaysians to take an interest in music
  • To promote unity and understanding via music
  • To promote Malaysia as an international cultural hub
