HELP UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
CONVOCATION CEREMONY 2005

HELP University College (HELP) held its convocation ceremony over the weekend of 16th and 17th April 2005 at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. About 1100 undergraduates and 200 postgraduates were conferred their degrees from HELP's partner universities.

Yang Berhormat Dato' Dr Shafie Mohd Salleh, the Higher Education Minister of Malaysia graced the convocation ceremony and presented the degrees to HELP's undergraduates. Along side the Higher Education Minister were YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Paduka Dr Hajjah Saleha binti Mohd Ali, Executive Chairman of HELP; Dr Paul Chan, President of HELP; Mrs Chan-Low Kam Yoke, Chief Executive Officer of HELP; Dr Khong Kim Hoong, Academic Director of HELP and representatives from HELP's partner universities worldwide. Amongst them were Professor David Battersby, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Charles Sturt University; Professor Paul Bailes, Director International Development, University of Queensland and Professor Alan Bensted, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of West England.

Ding Ling, an international student from China, who is the recipient of the Tan Sri Datuk Paduka Dr Hajjah Saleha binti Mohd Ali Outstanding Award led the Academic Procession with the HELP University College mace. The mace is a symbol of growth and prosperity of the institution and the incorporation of former practices with new traditions.

This year, the Pyramid Award was presented to Shukreen Ma, an all rounder who graduated with Cum Laude in Bachelor of Science in Psychology & Mass Communications. The Pyramid Award is presented to students who has contributed in terms of extra curricular activities, excellent leadership and organisational skills.

The postgraduate convocation on Saturday witnessed the conferment of Charles Sturt University Master of Business Administration and Master of Information Technology degrees to postgraduates by Mr Lawrence Willet AO, Chancellor of CSU. Amongst the graduates, DSP Megat Mohammad Aminuddin from the Royal Malaysia Police Force delivered the Vote of Thanks on behalf of the graduates.

In conjunction with the convocation, the 8th Strategic Seminar organised by HELP was held on Saturday, 16th April. The seminar was well attended by international academicians and representatives from partner universities worldwide. The theme for this year's seminar was "Future Directions for Higher Education". Some of the topics discussed were Changing Nature of Higher Education, Factors Affecting Performance of Private Higher Educational Institutions in Malaysia, University Leadership in the 21st Century and many more.
