Credit Transfer

Because of their international reputation and high standard, UOL degrees and LSE qualifications are widely recognized by many tertiary institutions in the United Kingdom as well as universities in other Commonwealth countries or in North America.

The sections below present useful information to students pursuing UOL/LSE programmes at HELP and who plan to transfer their studies overseas upon completion of four full Foundation units.

Transfer within UOL

Students who have successfully completed the four Foundation units required by the degree programme of their choice in BSc Accounting & Finance or BSc Economics & Management may be considered for entry to Year 2 in their respective programme at LSE in the University of London.

They must provide evidence of anticipated good marks as well as in their current academic performance and also must have completed units similar to the requirements for entry to Year 2 at LSE in London. Students cannot, however, be considered for entry to the final year on campus in London. Colleges within UOL which may entertain transfer requests include London School of Economics (LSE), Queen Mary, and Royal Holloway.

Transfer within the External System

External students are allowed to transfer to other unit areas within the External Programme run by LSE should they wish to do so. Students may also be allowed to transfer to another External programme provided that they satisfy the admission requirements of the programme and are prepared to pay any outstanding fees involved in the transfer process. The list below indicates the names of universities which accept the transfer of credits achieved at UOL/LSE.

Transfer to other universities in the United Kingdom

Many British and Commonwealth universities may also consider requests from External students for transferring their studies, in addition to some universities in North America. A list of names of the identified universities which consider credit transfer is worked out for students’ reference:

  • University of Bath
  • University of Bristol
  • University of East Anglia
  • University of Essex
  • University of Exeter
  • University of Nottingham
  • Lancaster University
  • University of Reading
  • University of Newcastle Upon Tyne
  • University of Queensland (Australia)
  • Royal Holloway, University of London
  • University of Sheffield
  • University of Southampton
  • University of Aberystwyth
  • University of Westminster

To effectuate credit transfer, the students themselves need to initiate the application procedures through UCAS. They may contact the admissions officer of the university of their choice and convey their request for second year entry. It is important to apply before the closing date in January so as to avoid inconvenience and disappointment since they would have to compete intensively with other applicants for entry.

Subject Exemptions

Students may apply for subject exemptions if they have already completed a similar syllabus with equivalent breadth and depth for similar subject or subjects required by the LSE programme concerned. This qualification must not exceed five years from the date of their current registration for their courses.

Exemptions can be granted up to a maximum number of four full Foundation units. Only students registered under the Standard Routes of LSE’s BSc degrees are eligible for seeking exemptions. For more information about course exemptions, students are advised to refer to LSE’s 2008 Prospectus, pp 62-63.

Career Pathways

Career prospects for UOL graduates are bright as employers in diverse occupational fields globally accord high esteem and value to UOL degrees. For graduates from BSc Economics & management, their employment areas include management consultancy, banking and consultancy, investment fund management, investor relations, risk management, trade relations management, corporate development, and corporate strategies. The career pathway for graduates from BSc Accounting & Finance is much wider. Their employment areas include accounting professions, investment, banking and finance, investment analyst and management, financial management, management consultancy, corporate treasury management, financial analyst, credit management, financial control, financial consultancy, and corporate secretary.
