Personal Description
Ms Vasantha holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of London, a Certificate in Legal Practice from the Malaysian Qualifying Board and an LLM from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (conferred in 2005). Ms Vasantha was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1992. Ms Vasantha has always had a strong desire and passion to be a lawyer and a teacher. She started tutoring students for the London external program in 1990 and later went on to tutor and successfully prepare students for the CLP examinations whilst she was still in practice. She also conducted many industrial training programs for bankers and others whilst she was in practice. Ms Vasantha decided to leave practice and turn to full time teaching in 1999. Her areas of interest and specialisation are Criminal Law, Law of Evidence (Criminal trials), Criminal Procedure, Administrative Law and Malaysian Land Law. The research for her LLM dissertation was on The Law of Evidence and Criminal Procedure: Is There a Fair Balance Struck between Seeking Justice and the Rights of an Accused Person in Malaysia and the UK. She also scored distinctions for all her LLM papers, namely Information Technology Law, Intellectual Property Law, comparative Administrative Law and Medical Law. She has taught on the HELP Diploma in Law program, Bachelor of Jurisprudence (External) program offered by the University of Malaya and on the Edexcel A-Level program. Ms Vasantha was appointed Head of the Department of Law in 2004 and she continues to teach the Diploma in Law students in Criminal Law and sees the A-Level Law students through their final semester. Since 2005, she also assists in vetting legal agreements and documents for HELP and its subsidiary companies.
