Personal Description
She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of London in 1992 and subsequently went on to complete her Certificate in Legal Practice in 1994 winning the Book Prize (highest score for the paper in the country) for General Paper. She was admitted to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1995.

Her tenure at HELP commenced in September 1996 as a Coordinator where she was responsible for both managing as well as teaching on the programmes. In 1994, she was re-designated as a lecturer in law to facilitate her pursuit for a Masters of Law. In 2001, she was promoted as Senior Lecturer and held the position of Head of the Department of Law from January 2001 to February 2004. She embarked on the study of IT Law in 1998 as part of her LLM and completed her LLM at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia specialising in this area. She graduated top of her class. She specialises in the areas of comparative Legal Systems, and Law of Information Technology. She teaches on a variety of programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate level (the specialist E-Commerce MBA including Singapore and Hong Kong and also taught on the HELP-University of Queensland Masters in Applied Law degree programme offered in Singapore). She has delivered numerous guest lectures on IT Law/E-commerce law for the benefit of both the staff and students at the university college. Ms Jaspal has drawn from her interests to undertake a multi-disciplinary approach by specialising in IT, Law and Ethics on the Masters of Information Technology and Technology Management. She is currently developing her specific research interests in new media on the Internet and e-security. She is also an adjunct lecturer of Charles Sturt University. She is currently developing her specific research interests in new media on the Internet and related areas such as e-security and surveillance law.

She is presently on sabbatical pursuing her PhD at Aberystwyth University. Her research is on 'The threat to regulation posed by the emergence of citizen journalism facilitated by new media on the Internet and what would be the right approach to adopt in regulating such activity'.
